The 09 season wrapped up...

Before we move forward we must look back...

The 09 season for the Mammoth was equal parts strange and disappointing, the mammoth suffered through their worst season at home losing 4 games out of 8 (5 out of 9 if you count the SJ pre-season game), had a slew of injuries affect the team both on and off the field, but yet somehow managed to make the playoffs only to lose to a MUCH better Calgary team showing fans in Colorado just how far our team had fallen in a short amount of time.

Here is 1 of 10 thoughts on the 09 season and the team in general, i will be posting 1 a week.

1. The Pepsi Center no longer scares teams

The home field dominance that was evident in the Mammoth's first 6 years of play vanished last year thanks to 4 losses including the most embarrassing loss a pepsi center crowd has ever seen. That 14-5 loss to Portland in the home opener set the stage for 3 more crushing losses at home and honestly cost the Mammoth a shot and home field in the playoffs, but that might not have been a good thing. I think that teams are no longer intimidated by the big crowds, noise, and altitude in fact i think the pepsi center sometimes works against the mammoth for a single reason...when the mammoth play a big game at home it seems like they always come up small...a few examples

04 playoffs vs. Calgary- Best team that year loses at home
05 Reg. season vs. Anaheim- GG's last home game...6 goals...pathetic
07 playoffs vs. San Jose- Crease call cost us...but the mammoth could have buried them early
08 playoffs v.s Calgary- 4th quarter doomed the mammoth in that game
-Both Blackout games have been losses

In the 09 season
vs. Portland- the worst home loss ever for the team
vs. Edmonton- the team had never won in Denver...until then
vs. Rochester- more proof that blackout game is a curse
vs. San Jose- Huge game in terms of home field, Mammoth again let San Jose slip in and win

All 4 of those games were winnable games for the Mammoth, and seeing how the other teams respond to coming in here i'm afraid the automatic wins at home for the Mammoth are gone.

i would love to hear from you and get what you think
